Janie Becker, pianist: The Best of Janie Becker
Sunday, October 16, 2022 - 2:00 p.m.
At the age of 10, Janie Becker began playing the organ at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake, MN. Following college, Jane moved to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area where she has been active as a teacher and performer for over 25 years and has her own studio in Chanhassen, MN. In January of 2000, Jane began to compose her own music for solo piano. She has released numerous recordings, as well as books and sheet music for solo piano. Southwest Minnesota native, Janie Becker, will be presenting a concert of highlights from her recordings on Sunday, October 16, 2:00, at the Memorial Auditorium in Worthington. With the completion of her newest recording project in June of 2022, Janie Becker has numerous piano recordings garnering a large listenership on the internet. Her discography includes 3 Christmas collections – The Holly and The Ivy, Angels, and O Little Town of Bethlehem; 4 original piano collections – Forever Friends, Ports of Call, Echoes of Love, and Dreamscapes; and 3 non-seasonal collections of well-known tunes – HeartSong America, HeartSong Ireland, a solo cover of “Fields of Gold”, and the film score from Out of Africa.
Janie’s music is available on more than 70 internet platforms including Pandora, Amazon, Apple iTunes, Napster, Spotify, Last.fm and Rhapsody. Her music is streamed and downloaded in Japan, South America, Australia and New Zealand, Russia, India, Mexico, Canada, the UK, Singapore, and numerous countries in Europe.
The largest of Janie’s streaming partners are Pandora and Spotify. Her non-seasonal music has an average stream rate on Pandora alone of 1.5 million spins per month. (each time someone listens to one of Janie’s songs it represents a spin). Her Christmas recordings recently topped a spin rate of 2.75 million spins in the month of December 2015. Pandora listeners have used one or more of Janie’s Christmas songs to create over 22,000 Pandora listening stations. Janie’s most popular song, “The Dance”, has had over 100 million spins on Pandora since 2009.
“The internet has provided an amazing vehicle for the independent musician to market and share their music”, Janie explains. “The presence of my music has grown exponentially on the internet since 2003, and, with the power of the internet, has truly taken on a life of its own.”
As much as Janie’s music has been successful on the internet, it is only one facet of her music career. Janie explains, “I love the writing and recording process, and I love to teach music. But most of all I love live performance. I love the thrill of taking the stage in a solo performance, setting up a space of serenity and beauty, wrapping the listener in a blanket of beautiful tone colors and melodies, and creating a rapt silence where you can hear a pin drop. That is what truly inspires me!”
