Text Box: Children’s Theatre

Missoula Children’s Theatre Mission Statement:

We live in a highly competitive era.  Youngsters are introduced at an early age to the critical realities of our achievement-and success-orientated society.  From academics to athletics to social interaction, children are pressured to get the best grades, to score the most points, to have the most friends.  At the same time, segments of our society tend to view the arts as a luxury, a frill, an extra-curricular activity running a distant second to the popular status of sports.  Add to these conditions the natural curiosity of the child, the tendency toward self-exploration, the adolescent impatience to put away the things of the child and emulate adult role models-for better or for worse.  Pressure.  Missoula Children’s Theatre approaches children with a full awareness of these conditions and strives to use participation in the performing arts as a vehicle to develop the life skills (social skills, communication skills, self-discipline, a strong work ethic, an understanding of the team concept and self-esteem) necessary to answer the challenges of our time.

Audition information and applications are available through the Auditorium Ticket Office, or copy & paste the forms below.

Student Application

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The auditions for Missoula Children's Theatre production of King Arthur’s Quest will be held on Monday, January 4, 2010, 3:45PM, Memorial Auditorium. There are roles for students in Kindergarten through 12th grade.  Approximately 50-60 local students will be cast to appear in the show with the MCT Tour Actor/Director. There is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the play. Students wishing to audition must arrive by the scheduled starting time and stay for the entire two-hour session. The first rehearsal begins approximately 15-30 minutes after the audition.

This is a group audition - no advance preparation is necessary, but a smile never hurts. Students should just be ready to come and have a good time!

Rehearsals will be conducted every day from 3:45-8:15PM at Memorial Auditorium. Although not all cast members will be needed at every session, those auditioning must have a clear schedule for the entire week and if selected, be able to attend all rehearsals required for their role. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed at the conclusion of the audition. Cast members scheduled for the full 4½ hours of rehearsal will be asked to bring a sack lunch, dinner or snack.

The performances will be held on Friday, January 8, 2010, 7:30PM and Saturday, January 9, 2010, 2:00PM, and will be presented at Memorial Auditorium, Worthington, MN. The students in the cast will be called for dress rehearsal before each performance.  All those cast must be available for all scheduled performances.

Missoula Children's Theatre is a non-profit organization based in Missoula, Montana. This coming year more than 60,000 cast members across the globe will take to the stage to the delight and applause of their families, friends, community, neighbors and teachers!  The residency at Memorial Auditorium in Worthington, MN is made possible by sponsor Worthington Elks Lodge and contributers, Hy-Vee and Nobles-Murray Rural Electric Trust.

King Arthur, of legend and song, strode across Medieval England with courage and confidence....or did he?  What if the troubles of his kingdom threatened to overwhelm him?  Watch the Damsels in Distress, witness the Lady of the Lake, and cheer for the King when he makes friends with the dragon.  Join the Knights and Squires of the Round Table as they try to do the right things.  Hope for the best outcome as your favorite characters of Camelot—Arthur, Guinevere, Merlin, Taleisin, the Raven and Lancelot wrestle with the challenges faced by their people.  Follow the original twist on this familiar story as it weaves its way through a landscape full of surprises.

Students audition on Monday, are cast in an original musical, rehearse throughout the week, and perform on the weekend!  Don’t miss this great opportunity to explore the arts.
